Lee Potts

To this earth

The house you grew up in

was tangled in wilderness.

The plot of ground

where you laid out

tidy rows in your final garden

didn’t hold you to this earth.

It’s the first week of autumn,

the wind shifts at dusk.

The sky is low and made

of rain that hasn’t yet

decided where to fall.
