Arlene Geller

She Strikes the Match

The blue glow almost breaks

her heart. She thinks of fires

through the ages, consuming

synagogues, churches, books.

She thinks of pyres,

religious practice,

punishment. Women

burned at the stake.

Flames lick,

death wings lift, leaving

a blue trail of redemption.

Poet/lyricist Arlene Geller’s poetry has appeared in Tiferet Journal, White Enso, Tiny Seed, and other literary journals. Two poetry collections, The Earth Claims Her and Hear Her Voice, were recently published, respectively, by Plan B Press and Kelsay Books.
